Let’s be honest here, when you hear about mushroom coffee for the first time it doesn’t create an appealing mental image. Sushi had the same problem when it was first introduced to the West. The idea of eating raw fish wasn’t something people would line up like they do today. Mushroom coffee has similar marketing issues. Hopefully, we will manage to convince you to keep an open mind. And at least try it before making a judgment on it.
How Is It Made
The process of creating mushroom coffee starts with cooking and creating a liquid extract. This is essential to release all the goodies mushrooms are packing. The liquid is dried and the resulting powder is added to the coffee and voila, you got yourself a mushroom coffee!
Now, the trouble is that there are hundreds of types of both mushrooms and coffee, and getting a pair that would complement each other may require some trial and error. In a few years, you just may stumble upon the right combination. Or you can take a shortcut, and simply pick one of the products from our list and see how you like it.
Benefits of Mushroom Coffee
The exact benefits you can get from the coffee depend on the type of mushroom you used in the mix. For instance, lion mane mushrooms are great for fighting the symptoms of depression and anxiety. It is also proven to have an impact on cognitive abilities, as a study has shown people testing better on tests after consuming lion mane.
Chaga is another popular medicinal mushroom that has positive effects on the human immune system. Chaga is very interesting as an addition to your coffee. Because some of its beneficial components are extracted and activated with hot water. It is also known for its strong anti-bacterial, anti-allergic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Cordyceps mushroom can do wonders for your blood sugar levels, by engaging your metabolism and is even being considered as a cure for type two diabetes, which is immune to insulin.
On top of these benefits, you can get from mushrooms, we mustn’t forget the benefits of coffee itself. Combined with mushrooms, your morning cup of joe can turn from a simple pick-me-up to a really healthy beverage with great effects on your overall health.
