Bripe: Your Pocket Brewing Device (Brewing Pipe) An Outdoor Coffee Maker.

664

New brewing techniques don not come out all too often. You can’t beat some of the classics, from a Moka Pot to a Chemex, but sometimes new is good—maybe even great. It takes a lot of time and attention to come up with a completely new way to brew coffee, especially when you want it to stand out from what is already on the market. Luckily, we have found a newer one that we think is worth paying attention to.

It is called Bripe, aka a Brewing Pipe. A Bripe can be described as a “portable outdoor coffeemaker” because it is one of the most accessible brewing techniques when you are doing just about anything, including camping in the woods. The creators are passionate about the product, which can be seen in their story and the details put into the Bripe.

The Creation of the Bripe

Tim Panek and Craig Hall came together to create the Bripe Coffee Brew
Pipe in 2015. Long before then, both men have spent years in industries that
required a lot of passion and attention to detail. Tim moved to Costa Rica with
his wife and four kids 20 years ago to do things like building a hostel to
provide medical and cultural services. Craig lives in Canada running Equator
Coffee Roasters with his Amber. They came together over common passions for
adventure and service.

Together they recognized a gap in the coffee market for enjoying a coffee outside without too much of a hassle. Everyone who enjoys camping knows how hard it can be to get a good cup of coffee in the middle of the woods—possibly with a few broken French Presses to show for it. It took some prototypes and the IndieGoGo funding to get them to their final product, but once they had it…they had it.

How to Use a Bripe

Being that a Bripe is such a unique product, they have a detailed how-to
on their
website
. Here’s a little summary:

  1. Place the filter and add ground coffee. The small size of the Bripe helps ensure that you put the right amount.
  2. Add water and stir.
  3. Use the handheld torch to brew the coffee. The Bripe comes with a thermometer so that you can easily check the temperature. Be careful with the torch if you are unfamiliar with it, and especially if you are near wood.
  4. Brew until it reaches a maximum of 185º Fahrenheit (85º Celsius). This should take 1-3 minutes. This is a great step because you can tailor the temperature to your preferences.
  5. Let cool (to about 140º F) by setting it on the cooling plate.
  6. Add milk and sugar if desired
  7. Blow air in the stem to make bubbles.
  8. Enjoy the fresh coffee through the straw on the pipe. Simple as that!

The entire process takes about 4-5 minutes total, making it not just
completely portable but also very fast. Considering the small size of the
Bripe, expect a small serving that still packs a punch. There is also the added
ease of drinking it right from the Bripe itself; No need to waste or wash a
cup!

Bripe Accessories

Now the Bripe itself is a pocket brewing device, but all of the
accessories won’t necessarily fit in your pocket as well. A Bripe comes in a
pack with the following:

Being provided these items means that you are ready to use a Bripe the
second you get it! They are all made of quality material and will work
perfectly in a camping setting. Inventor and Co-founder Tim Panek even has a
video of himself using it outside aside a waterfall—watch it here and try not to
crave a hike with some coffee by the end.

Where to Get a Bripe

You won’t see a Bripe being sold as commonly as you would a French Press or drip coffee machine, but that shouldn’t stop you! Purchase one on their site here, but some stores carry them. Call your local coffee shops to see if they do bring them by chance. If those fall short, check out your local outdoor store. As a Bripe becomes more common, it’ll be easier to get your hands on one. Walmart has even started to carry them online!
