Volcanica Coffee One of Our Favorites

It’s not a surprise that we at Coffee Sesh all enjoy a good cup of coffee. Recently, we’ve come to the conclusion that Volcanica Coffee is one of our favorite brands.

Strangely, we were under the impression that Volcanica was only good for Central American coffee. We decided to test this notion and discovered that all Volcanica coffee is of above-average quality! This is good news because it’s relatively cheap compared to other high-quality brands.

Here we give you a hand-picked list of our favorite coffees from this brand. Enjoy!

Tanzania Peaberry Coffee, Mount Kilimanjaro, Whole Bean, Fresh Roasted, 16-ounce

The first one on the list is one of the most exotic ones. Peaberry coffee is extremely unique: only about 5 to 10 percent of all coffee harvested can be called Peaberry. These beans are smaller and are much more concentrated in flavor and aroma than regular beans.

This is a coffee that is delicious in an unconventional way, as it has a very different taste to any other coffee you’ve tasted before. Get ready for something new!

  • Roast: Medium.
  • Flavor Profile: Dried fruit, savory chocolate, orange.
  • Body: Medium.

Ethiopian Coffee, Yirgacheffe Region, Organic, Whole Bean, Fresh Roasted 16-ounce

Ethiopian coffee is special because this is the country where coffee comes from. Ethiopia is still to this day the home of coffee. Dozens of different varieties grow in the wild here, an impressive fact if we take into account that some countries only grow two, three varieties.

The Yirgacheffe region in Ethiopia has a long tradition of coffee growing and is considered, even among Ethiopians, the most knowledgeable about coffee growing. Their coffee is always full of vibrant flavor and aroma- and this one is no exception!

  • Roast: Medium.
  • Flavor Profile: Ripe strawberry, pineapple guava, dark chocolate.
  • Body: Heavy, and rich.

Guatemala Coffee, Antigua, Whole Bean | Medium Roast, Single Origin, Fresh Roasted 16-ounces

We still think that Central American coffee is what Volcanica does best. We’ve been drinking Guatemalan coffee for a decade now and we’ve never been able to find one that beats Volcanica both in quality and value. This is, hands down, the single most satisfying Guatemalan coffee you can find.

We strongly recommend you brew using either a Chemex or/and Aeropress. Plenty of stirring is also advised to bring out the full sweetness which lays dormant in Guatemalan coffee.

  • Roast: Medium.
  • Flavor Profile: Honey, apple, tea, with a floral brown sugar finish.
  • Body: Full-bodied.

Costa Rica Peaberry Coffee, Whole Bean, Medium Roast, Fresh Roasted, 16-ounce

Costa Rica, one of the most peaceful countries in Central America, has gained worldwide recognition in the last decade. Their coffee, previously unheard of, has been making big waves because of its virtually flawless flavor and balanced acidity.

This one is a peaberry that offers a very original flavor profile consisting of honey, lemon, and almond. Even among Costa Rican coffee, this is incredibly rare. We couldn’t pass on this chance of tasting such an unusual coffee, and we are glad we did. It’s one of our favorites now!

  • Roast: Medium.
  • Flavor Profile: Honey, lemon, almond.
  • Body: Medium.

Jamaica Blue Mountain Peaberry Coffee, 100% Pure, Whole Bean, Fresh Roasted, 16-ounce

Yes, we love peaberry coffee! That’s probably very clear by now. Well, Jamaican peaberry coffee is a classic, and one of the more enjoyable types of peaberry there are in the world. Jamaican coffee is already very mild in bitterness and acidity, which lets you really perceive the delicate flavors of peaberry coffee unencumbered by other overwhelming tastes.

This Jamaican Blue Mountain is best enjoyed with a French press, as its mildness is easily countered with the flavor fullness that you get when brewing with a French press!

  • Flavor Profile: Crisp chocolate and orange peel notes.
  • Body: Medium.

Komodo Dragon Coffee, 100% Pure, Flores, Whole Bean, Medium Roast, Fresh Roasted, 16-ounce

This Komodo Dragon blend has two very important highlights: it has very low acidity, and it’s got a very green, fresh, nature-infused flavor and aroma. You can taste hints of tobacco (the green, unprocessed kind that is used for pipe smoking) and its aroma is filled with springtime blooming flowers. It’s a whole experience, and those who enjoy a good aroma will find this the absolute best on this list.

Low Acid Coffee, Whole Beans, Blend of Natural Low Acidic Coffee, Fresh Roasted, 16-ounces

Talking about less acidic coffees, we got this one in particular for the one member of our team who suffers from constant acid reflux and stomach aches. She can’t stomach strong coffee and usually has to abstain from coffee every couple of days to avoid further unpleasantness.

We all ended up loving it because it has such an enjoyable flavor profile. Although acidity is not a negative quality, having coffee like this every once in a while that has no acidity at all is a breath of fresh air. And it’s absolutely delicious!

Ideal for those who, like our dear colleague, have sensitive stomachs.

  • Roast: Medium.
  • Flavor Profile: Chocolate, nuts, and tangerine.
  • Body: Medium.
