Why is Sumatran Coffee so Famous?

Well, many things made Sumatran coffee as famous as it is today. But it first began in 1699, when the Dutch took coffee plants from Yemen to Indonesia. There it started to thrive, and pretty soon, all farmers were growing these beans. Because of this, the country’s coffee export skyrocketed, and thus, Indonesia was soon associated with coffee.

But of course, no coffee can be famous for a long time because of the export ratio. It needs to have some quality or an exceptional taste to stay relevant. And Sumatran coffee managed to do that just right. It has a bit of earthy flavor to it that people keep mentioning. It’s one of the most famous qualities of it that made the coffee loved by people worldwide. But the unique flavor is why many try it in the first place. But what could that flavor be?

Mushroom. Yes, you did read that right, Sumatran coffees tend to have a taste that resembles mushrooms, and because of this, a lot of people are intrigued by it.

Besides all of that, the low acidity of the coffee is also fantastic. Many prefer Sumatran coffee because of this trait. This can either be because of a medical condition or because of personal taste. It doesn’t matter in the end; if you have a more sensitive stomach, then you will love this coffee.
